Brown Eyed Girls member, Gain recently appeared on MBC Weekly Idol. One of the topic of interest is that she finds her sexiness is troublesome.

Anyway, the top she wears is from DKNY for Opening Ceremony. The Token Logo wool pullover and is available here for $195.

Brown Eyed Girls' 'Abracadabra'
There's been a recent Kpop gimmick going around: girl on girl action. In a country that is far from sexually open, it's a bit surprising how often there are lesbian scenes in music videos or girl vs. girl almost-kisses in photoshoots. Of course, it's not just in Korea; even in Western countries, girl on girl action is stereotypically considered hot and steamy. I mean, how many spring break movies have girls getting drunk and making out with each other? This, in a way, causes fetishization of lesbians, and, indeed, homosexuality as a whole.

More often than not, girls in these situations act sexually obscure in order to portray a femme fatale or independent women image. I find this a bit offensive; these women only gain the upper-hand in a power dynamic with other women. It's particularly ironic in "Female President" by Girls' Day. The lyrics in the song promote a take-charge attitude for girls:
Girls' Day's 'Female President'

We have a female president
Why so serious? What’s the problem?
If a girl kisses first, she gets arrested or what?

Come up to him and kiss him first
Now is the time, you can start first
(via kpoplyrics.net)
With such a message, it would seem obvious to have one of the girls taking charge with their boyfriend, right? Instead, the video shows the girls taking charge with each other. I understand enticing a certain viewership with kinky or otherwise sexual images, but in a song about strong women, shouldn't it focus on that strength? Or at least the kind of womanly strength promoted in the song lyrics?

RaNia in Maxim
In other cases, groups known for being scandalous and sexy push boundaries little bit further. Take this picture of RaNia from Maxim. Rania, as we've talked about before, is a group known for one thing from their debut: their bodies and provocative dancing. It may or may not be the idols' choices to wear what they wear or pose in such an obviously provocative way, but it's certainly not discouraged by their companies. In an effort to always be cutting edge, Kpop companies may be taking sexualization (of both sexes) a bit too far.

Nine Muses' 'Wild'
Like hot pants, this sexualization of idols may sell, but it hasn't become trendy in mainstream Korea. In other words, idols are the exceptions. And that's why the Ministry of Gender Equality & Family has banned music videos with homosexual undertones (or overtones, for that matter). For example, this year, Nine Muses' "Wild" was deemed 19+ for provocativeness.

I can't really fight these images without knowing if the girls themselves wanted to be portrayed in such a way. And I'm not sure they are 100% bad. Sex sells. We all know what the oldest profession is, and these images of girl on girl action don't seem deeming on the surface. Perhaps I have it wrong, and they do not harm female independence at all. I mean, wasn't the kiss scene in 'Abracadabra' Ga-In's idea? She was trying to serve Korea a shocking reality check; testing the social norms as it were. And that is what being an artist is about. So I guess pushing sexual boundaries is inevitable in any artistic media.

What are your thoughts on girl on girl action in Kpop? Is it attractive? Out of place in Korea? Good for social commentary? Want me to talk about guy on guy action? Please leave a comment below.

P.S. I'm quaking in anticipation for the day when someone actually kisses instead of just looking like they are on the brink of it. What a riot that will be.

We haven't done this in a long time, I'm so glad to bring it back with Lauren. This time we're bringing you different opinions from different Korean magazine from May.

1. Lee Hyori for Vogue May 2013.

KD: Personally I think this shoot is fun and quirky, showing
a different side of Korea's Beyonce, Lee Hyori. From what I know, this shoot was inspired by "The Great Gatsby". It brings back the 20's with a modern touch by adding and accessorizing her with playful jewellery pieces. Great way to spice up the past!

Lauren: Honestly, Lee Hyori is sexy no matter what she's wearing. She is definitely a good person to play the flapper, and I think this shoot does a really nice job balancing a fun, avant-garde style with risqué sex-appeal. I adore heels and shimmering dresses, so I, of course, was in love. The shoot also has some very visually dynamic black and white shoots, which adds to the vintage style. All in all, a good round for Vogue.

2.  So Ga-In  for Harper's Bazaar May 2013

KD: I think this look made Ga-In look younger. I personally love
shoots like this in particular because it make the idols look cuter, and it really shows off their fun and flirty side. They used a lot of floral print in this shoot, really making spring more exciting and colorful. When I think of spring, I think of pastels and colors,
so this shoot really stood out to me the most.

Lauren: Ga-In looks great, but I'm not a huge fan of the basic  pastel-decked idols on a plain background.  Her light skin blends into the white background, so I guess, A+ for emphasizing her pallor? I do appreciate a good floral though. This shoot was  typical, nice, and high-fashion; it just didn't "wow" me. My favorite shot was the blue outfit.

3. Park Han Byul for W Magazine May 2013

KD: I don't know about this look. Too many things
are going on, and her shorts blend in with the background. Plus, they're using too many prints and textures. I love the hair and make-up in this look, but it doesn't really pull the outfit together. Better luck next time,W!

Lauren: Park Han Byul definitely is sexy, but I really don't like this shoot. Her poses are awkward, and the various wooden chairs do not help matters. Even standing up, she looks like she is about to topple over; I think there is not a single picture in which both her feet are solidly on the ground. The styling is fine, albeit a bit lacking in accessories. The highlight is the various heels Park Han Byul wears. If you want to see beautiful Park Han Byul, I would just screen shot her drama, Couple Breaking.

I went back into my finding archives and this appeared.
It was from last year when Ga-In released her Bloom music video.

Did you like the video?
 I haven't watched it yet.
I know from the screen captures there are a lot of sweaters and legs. Here's one sweater Ga-in wears there.

It is from Bike Repair Shop's S/S 2012 collection. According to Google translate it is called Pretzel-M Knit. It can be bought here for 92,820  won which roughly translates to 92$.

more all my love adam couple stuff. this time they actually shared. From episode 20 of All My Love, MBC sitcom.

The dress Ga-In is wearing is W.Dressroom previously worn by Sohee. The coat is Reneevon and is priced at 749000Won which roughly translates into 749$ USD. You can get the coat here. It would've been a perfect coat for the holidays.

So something embarrassing, I've finally listened to Hello yesterday >.>
Also, anyone could recommend a place to find images or screencaps of idols or shows? Or tumblr blogs that posts a lot of pictures regularly. Thanks.

I hope you like the updates.
Long time no see everyone. Maria here :) Boo blogger makes my pictures un-hq. :(
But good things come too. Sarah T sent us a tip about one of my favourite designers - Sass & Bide. A super designing duo from Australia.

In 101102's Strong Heart some whimsical confessions were made. I love the episode, the guests, the lights, and the fashion. Previously I've posted on Ga-In's accessories. This time from the lovely tipper Sarah we know the whereabouts of her top. From Sass and Bide Ga-In wore their "Who's Next" Tribal Gold Plate Tee. Available at glassworks-studios.com for 265 Euros.

Ga-In in the latest episode of Strong Heart. She was rather over-looked from Nichkhun and Bom's confessions. But her style is never over-looked. Sadly, I've only found her accessories after a quick look.
Her ring is the House of Harlow 1960 Sunburst Cocktail Ring, which was previously found. The bracelet is a Marc by Marc Jacobs Keeper.
The ring is priced at 50$ here.  The Marc Jacobs is priced at $200 here.

As previously stated, Brown Eyed Girls went to Thailand for Visit Korea 2010 - 2011.
In close up pictures Ga-In was spotted with an enormously large ring. It is quite a hit actually even though it was designed by celebrity Nicole Richie. Her line of jewellery is called House of Harlow 1960 named after her daughter Harlow. The ring is priced at 50$ at shopbop. It is called House of Harlow 1960 Sunburst Cocktail Ring. Available in other colours other than black like Abalone and Cream. Also available in other forms like earrings or necklaces.

I really adore the design, don't you?
People say celebrities can design their way out of a paper bag, but House of Harlow has proved some people wrong.

Brown Eyed Girls in an airport around 100912.
I apologize for not having time to write out something. I am now sick so I may have a little bit more time.
Ga In and the rest of the Brown Eyed Girls gang went to Thailand for Visit Korea 2010 - 2011. I believe Ga-In wore a Freecity LNL Peace Corps Jacket from their trip back to Korea. This jacket is available for 350$ at Rontterman.

WGM, my everyone's favorite guilty pleasure has finally delivered us some more idol loving. Especially this week since you know, Adam couple kissed. Also, next week Khuntoria and Adam come together to have a badminton match.
Ga-In has already been proven a fan of Marc Jacobs. I mean who isn't? So on the preview of this week's We Got Married she wore a very adorable dress. Usually a dress like this has an age limit, but for all kpop idols there are no age limits. Originally available at mytheresa and Barneys, it's the Marc by Marc Jacobs Ukita Patchwork Dress in Bright Navy. I believe still available in physical store for around 560$.

Also, the host of Come To Play wore the same dress during the episode where Super Junior and Wonder Girls both guested.

Just so to even the field some Adam couple finds. There were too many repeats so I just put the brand on the image.
They are only those talk moments, and only for episodes I can find.
